In the Eye of A Hurricane

Somewhere under Heaven, in the eye of a hurricane, little Jenny would dance in the Rain.”

Think of all the crap we go through or worry about. Multiply that by the number of people we know. Then multiply that by all the people we don't know. Add in the elements that affect us all. Throw in chance and bad choices. Include the force of gravity. Time. Space. Invisible influences.

Is the world going to hell in a hand basket? Many, for different reasons, would answer “yes.” Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but I would venture to say that someone within earshot of our thoughts is going through some sort of hell right now, and all they can do is keep going.

Our lives are a hurricane. Sudden, violently unexpected changes, or storms rolling in over the horizon. Ready or not, look out! And then we're in it up to our eyeballs. What do we do? The signal to noise is off the charts, we can barely hear ourselves think. All around us, the crashing and banging of unleashed chaos, we're pushed and pulled and squeezed. We wait for the other shoe to drop, and we quickly learn there is a seemingly endless supply of other shoes, and they're dropping like flies, faster than we can swat them off.

And yet, in the midst of these trials and tribulations, we discover there's an island where we can stop for a moment and gather our energy. Maybe even harness the storm.

The eye of the hurricane. We all have one. I'm sitting in mine right now. How about you?

Carol’s guiding principle is “let’s do big things together.” Last Friday, I photographed her and a couple of other residents at the Studios at Walnut for the studio’s upcoming new website.

Selling is a Journey

Jason is a sales and marketing guru out of Detroit. He only works with people he likes, and when he enters the room, he’s not there to sell anything. For Jason, selling is a journey that begins with friendship. Jason and I have been friends for about a week. We met in an online training session for Alignable, a platform designed to help business owners meet other business owners.

Jason and I are a couple of the newest Alignable ambassadors, each of us with a local group we manage, hosting events to bring our business people closer together. I hosted my first event today, “Where is your next $10K coming from?” Our attendees included a couple of Alignable ambassadors, one of my BNI buddies, our local dog ranch, and a gospel singer who’s taking care of her elderly mother in Ohio. Conversation was on point, with some useful side trips. We went a couple of minutes over our allotted hour, with new friendships formed and contacts made. Will one of these connections be the source of somebody’s next $10K? Perhaps, but that’s not the point now, is it?

Our next workshop, “Get Out on the Dance Floor!” is on Monday, July 11, at 8am PDT. Put on your dancing shoes and join us!
