The Return of George Geary

George Geary is a Certified Culinary Professional and accomplished mischief maker. He came to the club to present his latest book, LA’s Landmark Restaurants, to entertain and amuse us with his wit and charm, and to settle the age old question: which is better, Philippe’s or Cole’s? I will admit right here that I’ve never been to Cole’s, and it’s been years since I’ve eaten at Philippe’s. Nothing against either! There are so many incredible restaurants in this world, but very few that can be described as landmarks. Some of these eateries have been in the family for seven generations, despite the temptation of selling the land to the highest bidder. What if George Geary was the highest bidder, with a billion dollars to spend? He’d buy that land in Hollywood that’s gone so horribly wrong, and he’d bring back all that glorious, glamorous history, so distant, was it real? Not all the players want their stories told, despite the richness of their heritage. Not all the walls will talk. We are left to imagine what might have occurred in these fixtures of past life among the angels. Or imagine, like George Geary, what could be.
