NYCOMG | Aaron

Meet Aaron, New York City via San Diego. We’re on Spring Street, across from his building. Waiting at the light, we strike up a conversation. I told him I’m out photographing people. He was sure he did not meet my criteria, but I informed him he was wrong. I photograph beautiful people and interesting people, and sometimes they’re both. Sometimes they’re bored, and sometimes they’re happy, and sometimes they don’t want to be photographed at all, so I leave them be. I approached the Fedex guy after I’d already gotten my shot, but he didn’t want to play. Too late. Hugh Brownstone gives us the following advice: ask permission or don’t get caught. One of our crew got caught the other day. He wasn’t even photographing the guy, who gave chase. Scott was shook up but unharmed. Later, Mark and I separately met the nun chuk guy in the park. I didn’t quite catch the interaction, so I wound up in a conversation that led to nun chuk guy asking for my help with the woman he loves, Jody Comer. What is it with the Jody’s? I advised him there’s someone for everyone, but that got me nowhere. I finally told him that I needed to get back to my group, but that I would ponder his situation. He later yelled “are you mocking me?” when I made another loop around the park. There’s an art to reading people prior to injecting yourself into questionable circumstances. I don’t seem to have mastered the art quite yet.
